History tells us that the concept of school uniforms started long back perhaps during the Roman era, when the concept of schooling, education and universities became a very vital one. Much of the schooling models are based out of this period and it is not surprising that even school uniforms got used in subsequent centuries. There is a wide variety of school uniforms across the globe. While it is usually the public schools which prescribe strict adherence to school uniforms in countries in the West, Australia and European continent, in the East it usually is invariably followed in every school – public or private. Sometimes, a lot of design and research goes into the making of school uniforms. The most common type is the shirt and the trouser or a short pant for boys and a blouse and a skirt for girls. Variations to this design exists in almost every country. The Japanese school uniforms, for instance, look like a naval uniform – which is not surprising because the uniform design was inspired through their naval dress code. Schools also suggest a blazer or a jacket to boys and/or girls, especially in cold countries. The Germans are well known for their strict rules as regards school uniforms.
