Mitsubishi 3000GT Body Kits
If you’re thinking about customizing your Mitsubishi 3000GT with a body kit, you want to make sure you know the difference between the two materials they are made out of.
3000gt body kits are made out of two materials. Depending on how much money you want to spend and the advantages and disadvantages of each will help you decide which kit is right for you. The two materials to choose from is fiberglass and poly urethane. We will touch on both and let you decide which one is right for your 3000GT.
There are many myths about fiberglass and if you believe them all it will make you lean toward the poly urethane Mitsubishi body kits. However, we will dispel the myths about the fiberglass kits. One of the reasons we want to put the myths out there is because the fiberglass is the cheaper of the two and should not be over looked, because it may be a fit for you.
The two biggest myths are that the fiberglass doesn’t fit well, it breaks easier and that thicker fiberglass is better.
One thing to keep in mind fiberglass 3000gt body kits can be manufactured many different ways, which in turn means that not all fiberglass is equal. Yes we know that fiberglass will break, but it is the cheap manufactured fiberglass you have to look out for. The same impact that would do damage to a factory bumper will do the same damage a fiberglass bumper.
When getting your kit put on never take it to a friend down the street that claims to be able to install the kit. Taking your 3000GT body kit to a specialist will guarantee that it is installed correctly and fits right, Fiberglass does require additional labor that includes sanding, grinding, cutting, glassing, but if done by a specialist and the right kit is chosen, then this won’t be a problem.
Just because you have thick fiberglass doesn’t mean that it is of quality. It is the manufacture process that will determines the quality. Make sure you do your due diligent and check out what people say about the different brand of body kits you decide to choose from. You can also check out the 3000GT forums.
Urethane
Poly urethane is more flexible than fiberglass and of course more expensive.
Urethane is a rubber like material that is very flexible. It can bend without cracking or bending. In addition poly urethane does not chip as easy as fiberglass.
On the other hand, urethane as well holds a few disadvantages that have to be accepted. Among them is the weight, which is crucial if you plan racing your car. Then again, the weight could be the smallest inconvenient, because urethane is really hard to paint, and whenever this is done incorrectly the paint can peel off in pieces or flake off. Likewise, in the aspect of time, urethane can droop or wrap due to extreme heat, so in essence, if you install a urethane body kit don’t forget your car in the sun.
