Hi, this article is on shotshell reloading. I have reloaded for twenty years and shot gunning in any form is a lot of fun. The reloading part could be just like a working part of the procedure. I have turned it into a way to spend some time when the weather is bad. The reason for shotshell reloading has evolved for me, it used to be mainly to save money – now I reload for relaxation and to help others get their ammo at a reasonable cost. More times than not it turns into a social meeting to get away from our wives or try to anyway.

More often than not we all wind up at the reloading bench together and the ideas just form from different thoughts that someone will come up with. It is a shock at times what people can think up as a group. I have always found that two heads were better than one. There always seems to be someone to open a manual and start a ‘what if’ project. In shot gunning most wives also take part so they very often have good input.

The best part is still hunting birds for me. I think I am just that basic and like to work at something and to figure where the best place and time is. I think learning the habits of the prey and having it all come together in a good hunt is what makes my day. The memory I always like to reflect on is the early mornings in a duck blind pouring coffee or a quiet chat on the site. At times the sunrise will just be worth the trip or the game you see on the way there. The best part is just having a lot of fun doing something I love.

The shot shell reloading is different for a lot of people as a lot seem to do it just for skeet or trap and load a lot of shells. When I was shooting trap five or six hundred rounds a weekend was an average, then if there was a shoot off for a tie it could be a lot more. I have loaded a thousand for a weekend and come up short.

Owning of a good progressive press is a must if you are to have any fun loading a lot of rounds. The idea of using the old single stage press and going through all that is just too time consuming. The wonder of some of the new equipment is just a joy for me because I still remember doing it all the long way. Having a good reloading press can make the process much easier. I really do love reloading as sometimes I can just get away by myself and get it all done. I think the idea of being ready takes a lot of stress away and I have more time to prepare for the rest of the hunt.
